Bumblefoot

It was a shorter course of treatment and a bit more straightforward, since the case was not as severe.

I discovered a small bumblefoot spot on one of my ducks (Nipper, it had to be Nipper) this evening, so I'm going to be starting my turn with treatment tomorrow morning. I'm glad I followed the last couple of threads on it so that I feel confident that I know what to do. I'll be soaking her feet in a bucket with a towel around the top like a shawl collar around her shoulders to help keep her in, but not drinking the water and will put a clean water bucket right next to her so that she can drink and maybe fish a few treats off of the surface while she endures her soak.

I tried to get the colorless iodine at Walgreens, but they had discontinued it. I was able to get it at CVS.

Sorry about Nipper, but I am glad you are fully prepared! That helps a lot, makes a big difference once you actually have to deal with it...

Good to know about Walgreens, I got my first bottle at CVS as well, but now I get it at Walmart... took me a while to find it there, but is cheaper...

I have no doubt you will do just fine, but if anything comes up, feel free to holler... :)
Good luck!

Soak her feet in warm epsom salt water 15-20 mins daily... apply clear iodine after they dry... after a couple times of these soaks, use tweezers(DO NOT cut the foot) and pry up the scabs... underneath the scabs if there is any hard/cheesy whitish/yellowish chunks, remove those... that is infection and needs to be removed before the feet can heal... sometimes they squeeze out easy, sometimes you have to pry them out and are hard to remove... but just keep working on them after soaks until all is removed... antibiotic ointment can be applied after infection is removed, gauze pad over the holes and vet wrap to keep the wounds clean til they heal...
How many days do I need to soak them? Also, is that clear iodine after each soak no matter what? Does it have to be clear iodine? And by antibiotic ointment do you just mean Neosporin or is there a specific ointment? (Sorry for bombarding with questions):duc

Soak each day until you can remove the scabs and get any/all infection out... yes, clear iodine after each soak, it will help pull infection to the surface... clear is best, you can find it at most pharmacies, small bottle, and can be labeled as clear/colorless/decolorized iodine or iodine tincture... Neosporin or similar antibiotic ointment is fine, yes...

No worries on the questions, better to ask and get clarification than to guess... :)

I need more help with this bumblefoot issue. My problems are (1) Is it supposed to be white around those large spots? And (2) I can’t really tell where/what the pus is. I know what the pus is supposed to look like though.

This is after a soak, yes? White around the lumps is waterlogged skin, kinda like how our fingertips prune up if in water for a while...

The infection is under those scabs... not all looks exactly the same, just remove anything that is whitish/yellowish and not healthy pink tissue once you get the scabs off...

I’ve been trying to get the scabs off for a few days now, and one of those the hard scab came off, but I couldn’t seem to get to the pus. Unless I’m not doing something right or the scab wasn’t completely off

It may take several days of soaks and clear iodine applications before you can work the scabs off completely... it's best to go slow and keep working on it, remember, it took time to get bad it will take longer to correct...
