It's so good to hear you making progress. It's not a quick thing to fix. Time & patience is required. Just remember to make vet appts in advance should future treatments dont make progress. You are an experienced person now & learning as you go to gain confidence.
Bumblefoot takes me a long time to treat cuz we keep our hen in-house & take time treating gently. The last treatment took more than 4 weeks but the hen became very tame & sweet.
We soak her in warm Epsom for 25-30 min, then apply triple antibiotic ointment w/a round makeup pad, then vet wrap, repeat again every day. We keep the hen in-house to keep foot clean. We never have used Prid ~ our case of Bumblefoot never has progressed to the swelling stage cuz we monitor the hens feet to catch early.
We don't force the Bumblefoot sore off but let it come off more naturally either in the wrap or in the Epsom soak. Each day I very gently test how loose the edges of the wound is progressing but never force pulling it off until it is very loose. After the Bumblefoot core comes off we continue using triple antibiotic ointment pad & vetwrap so the wound forms a healing scab in a few days which we also might use the foot soak to heal & loosen scab naturally ~ no pulling.
After the healing scab falls off we still wrap w/ vetwrap no ointment for a day or two just to cushion the new skin. Then the next day let the hen walk around w/no bandage to toughen new skin & to get her normal walk back again. She's an older bird so we're more patient treating her.
I had to laugh at some videos that dunk their chickens in deep buckets to soak their hens. We only use an old shallow 5-qt cook pot w/ about 3-inches of warm Epsom soak for the hen's feet. But then she's accustomed to the treatments and sits herself on the edge of the pot ~ so cute. But I hold the pot just in case she spooks to knock it over. DH sits to my side to hold down her wings but usually only when he puts her into the water does she flap just a little & once she feels the warm water she relaxes. When the soak is done he lifts her out onto paper towels to dry her feet.
Here's the photo I took of DH sitting w/us while the hen is sitting in the foot soak. She's not up to her neck in a bucket either
