Tending to my chickens
One of my RSLs has a bump about the size of a small marble on her chest bone right at the tip. I checked my other hens and they're all fine and don't have a bump. The bump is hard and under the skin. She's acting normal- laying eggs, eating, drinking, and pooping fine. Is this anything to be concerned about?

Hmm. Could just be a slight bone deformity? I haven't heard of any illnesses with that as a symptom. Maybe she's a bit thin so you can feel it better, and it's actually normal?

Yeah, a prominent chest bone is a sign of them being underweight (although you can feel it on all chickens). Maybe watch her while they're eating and make sure she's getting food like everyone else? Other than I wouldn't worry about it.

Is it on the keel bone? Can you fill if it fluidly or creamy? I think that your hen suffers from keel cyst. You need to open an drain the blister, clean with iodine and pack with an antibiotic ointment. You should monitor the situation, if it became infected you should give antibiotics orally. Good luck !

It is on the keel bone, but it feels nearly as hard as the bone itself. She eats a lot and food is always available in 2 different locations in their coop. Her crop is always full. They say a keel sore can be caused by irritation from sitting down? I don't really see her sit down too much. Could a drastic change in weather cause this?

As far as I know no.
Could it be a abnormal growth of the bone? Did she have been wounded in that area? It also can be a tumor on the keel bone.
Are you shore that the consistency of it is hard as bone and not as softball maybe?or a baseball?
Try again, and report please,I am curios.

I checked her this morning. Yesterday it was very hot for our region, the hottest this hen's ever been in. This morning it was warm but significantly cooler than yesterday. I felt her bump and it's now smaller, still hard, and almost feels like a joint. It's harder than a softball, but I don't know about a baseball. Can the heat contribute to that?
