Burning trash?

I will recycle what I can, use some food scraps for the chickens, compost other organics, etc, but there is def some stuff that is only trash. The problem I am seeing is that I have a passenger car, not a truck, and I'm not gonna be keen on hauling trash in it...maybe I can make friends with someone who does dump runs...

What we can't recycle we bring to the transfer station about 30 minutes away. It is not legal for us to burn trash in our county and many others around here. Some neighbors do, but some have been caught and fined. I'd rather pay a little to bring it to the transfer station than to be fined for doing it (plus I really don't like the smell). Burning sticks and yard waste are not a problem if there isn't a burning ban.

Additional idea: If you get a hitch put on your car, you can attach a hitch haul to it. You can pick those up on sale for about 50.00 and they'll carry your trash without stinking up the car.

...and just because there isn't a regular route in your area doesn't mean that you can't contract for pickup. I'm sure there is a company in your area that would provide a small dumpster and regular pickup.

We do not have trash pickup either. We burn paper and cardboard. Food goes to animals and other stuff to the recycling place.

We have trash pick-up here, but I refuse to pay $20/month for it, when I don't have enough actual garbage to fill two trashcans in 6 months, let alone a week. We have lived here for 6 years and haven't paid a garbage man, yet. We recycle everything we can, burn paper and cardboard, and go to the dump once every 6 months or so. It costs us 18 for a pick-up bed sized load. It's great.
