thereseiam: funny story.

Yeah I had a friend of mine actully I was living at his camp for a while, he'd come by and get a few eggs from me every once in a while for home and I would also send him with some to sell at work. It rocked on there for some time and no egg money from him/co-workers. Well, come to find out he was taking them the eggs bragging (LOOK what I raised and giving them away for free) so I stopped that. I told him to start bringing me a sack of feed a week for those eggs. He decided that wouldn't work and there were no more free eggs.

DH loves the girls as much as I do so if I ever did come home with another bird, he'd be thrilled (after he was done freaking out about the whole "where will they fit" thing).

DD and I snuck PLENTY past the daddy, until DS discovered he could earn "snitch points." He is the worst! Will quiz DD and I: "Soooo, what did you bring back from the show? Don't tell me nothing. I do not believe you."

Ther only thing I hate worse than getting busted is being ...uhm... "evasive"...

Well seeing hubby helps with the taking care of the chickens, I can't hide how many I have but WHAT I have I do have to be careful of.

He told me to wait to get Jersey Giants until the Spring but a local woman had eggs and well they were a good price and ...and...well I just HAD to have them. Of course I didn't tell him what they were.

My grandson knew though, he was there when I got them. So for the last 3 weeks my grandson's been whispering..."when's the Jersey Giants going to hatch?" And I've been shhhhing him.

Yesterday when they started hatching he came running into the living room yelling, "mom, mom, the Jersey Giant's are hatching! The Jersey Giant's hatching!"

My husband raised his eyesbrow. I said, "Surprise!"

I'm so BUSTED!!

What fun to read about how others deal with this kind of thing. It's interesting that some of us share this obsession with our spouses, some of us have spouses who don't quite 'get' the appeal of our feathered friends, and most amusing to me, that I'm not the only sneaky BYCer!

I know exactly what you mean......was supposed to order 15 meaties, got 30. I was supposed to go look at the chicken swap and came home with 10 quail and 10 light brahma chicks, now he's putting up fencing for goats and then we are building a bigger coop cause I want to put silkies in the little coop and move the laying hens to bigger digs and get more Brahmas!!! Oh, and did I mention I am going to pick up 2 light brahma hens tomorrow???

My DW likes the chickens, however she is not addicted as I am. I did notice that she sometimes goes into the incubator/hatcher room to see if I have anything in them. Right now I am in the middle of remodeling the big girls coop so they are confined to their run, and I have 22 4wk old in the spare bedroom that I have to build a coop/run for. I guess with me being a little overwhelmed with chicken projects she knows she don't have to worry about me hatching any eggs for a while.

She saw some hoop coops here on BYC, so now she wants me to finish the remodeling of the coop and build a hoop coop for the 22 little ones. Who knows, she will probably help me with it. I have to admit, I have been married to her for almost 28 years and she has never fussed about any of my chickens. If she is out and about, she even calls to see if I need feed/supply's and such. I think I will keep her!!!

She did have an acquaintance of hers to ask,"how do you put up with this?". The DW responded, "I know where my husband is, do you?"
