Butchered my first bird today.

Well today was the day! I butchered an extra drake. I plan to do 2 more tomorrow. Next week we have several more to do.

How did it go? I had never scalded and plucked ducks before but did so last year....I timed it so there weren't a lot of pin feather. Still, my hands and fingers had charley horses by the time I was done picking!!! Good luck to you and your next batch!

AWESOME. Good for you. I hope all went well. I found that I don't have the patience to pluck (or the plucker) so I skin my ducks and chickens though I rarely pluck a chicken.

I'm hoping for a somewhat cool spell so that I can get some more of mine done. It's just too hot for me right now.

It went well. The first went very well. The next 2 had a lot more pin feathers so we skinned them. It has really cooled here. Our high is going to be in the low 70's. the next batch are about 7.5 weeks. We plan to butcher them on Monday.
