So one of my cockerels suddenly came down with Mareks today (he was fine yesterday AFAIK) and could barely move so I had to put him down immediately. I decided to butcher him for the learning experience. I definitely learned a lot and as far as I could tell, he looked normal inside but I have only ever done quail so I wanted to ask.

I won’t be eating him for a variety of reasons but mostly because it A. Took me forever from killing to finishing cleaning and B. I messed tons up and nicked intestines, crop, etc. and just didn’t want to eat him after that 😂

I almost threw up from the smell when I nicked something 🤮😂🙈

Almost stopped the necropsy right there actually but I kept going and learned a lot 😂🙈

Not sure what was bulging out here? I had already cut the vent off.

He clearly was still eating and had a good sized last meal.

This one was ginormous and extremely hard. Is that normal??? What is it???? Inside was really dark and meaty looking/nice and I think maybe some food at the very bottom ? Idk.

I have some questions about his comb too. Did he just get into some tiffs with my other birds or did he have something else wrong with him? He was half Lavender Orpington (single comb) and half Easter Egger (pea comb) so could that cause the weird bumps? I don’t remember seeing them before though. And of course the scabs. Sorry if these pics aren’t great. I tried.
