Hello I butchured one of our Speckled Sussex Roosters tonight and found lice on him. Is he safe to eat? I washed him off good inside and out. I just don't know if I can go ahead with dinner for tomorro night. Please either tell me to get rid of the meat or put my mind at ease...........I do hope the meat is ok.
Thanks in advance

I think it is ok as long as the lice was on the outside, plus when you cook him all the bacterias will be killed.

Thank you!!! I will be treating the rest of my birds tomorro for the lice. I'm sure if one has them they all do. Oh, crap that means i'll have to with-hold from using eggs too right? Especially if I use Ortho dust. For what 2 weeks? I hope some one knows.

Should be fine but if you butchered him tonight... you need to wait 3 days to eat. Rigor sets in and the meat will be more tender if you do wait.

Hey - if you buy chicken at your local big chain supermarket... who's to say what it was in contact with before they packaged it up so pretty! Right?
It's fine. Eat it.
