Butternut squash for the hens?

Sounds like the answer for chickens is to boil the squash...no oil and you can even mix the left over water with some layer feed for a little nutrient-rich “porridge”.

I feed a lot of squash to my hens as my father grows a lot of it. He’ll peel and cook a bunch and throw the peels, knobs, etc in a big pot on his wood stove to cook for my flock (beats running the electric or gas stove).

The flock love the cooked squash and the egg yokes get nice and dark from the squash!

So, "common sense" is a solid tool to use her as well.

I feed butternut and spaghetti squash to my Birds. I puncture holes in it with a knife and cook in the microwave for 10 minutes. Slice and cool. My Birds go bonkers for it..

My girls never liked pumpkin or butternut squash but the inside mush from cleaning out the pumpkin to carve it, They couldn't gobble that up fast enough.
