Butterscotch is broody

Do you worry about her drowning?
No, definitely not. Her nest is a bit elevated and the whole duck pen is on a slope so water can’t pond up even if there is shallow water flowing across the surface. All the ducks should be safe but of course I’ll keep an eye on everyone throughout the storm. I was mostly worried about her nest getting saturated by heavy rain, or if there’s enough water flowing over the surface, it could reach the eggs.

All 7 eggs are alive and well in the incubator. I’m glad I brought them in because it’s been a day and a half of solid rain and wind and it’s still raining. We definitely got over 10 inches.

Butterscotch is doing great and the nest is surprisingly dry, as is she. She does have some shelter from the trees. I’m hoping I can give her eggs back Monday or Tuesday - as soon as it stops raining and her nest dries out. But there’s another hurricane approaching later in the week so I’m not sure what to do😵‍💫

I gave Butterscotch her eggs back a few days ago. It’s now day 24/25 and this morning she didn’t get off her nest for breakfast..
