I bet I could find one at a yard - sale for cheaper. ( Hopefully!! )

Could we get pics posted of various setups that fellow BYC'ers use, especially outdoor button coops? I'm looking for ideas for summer time coops, maybe on a grass covered area.

I have great sucsess with clear plastic storage bins. I keep trios in a 58 qt. container. I do however replace the cover with a homemade window screen cover. Works great.

I am keeping my month old chicks in a clear plastic tote, and they will be graduating into totes that have been altered! I dremelled a fairly large square out of the front (10" x 7"), replaced it with hardware cloth (1/2 in wire mesh), put a wire door in the wire front and a screen mesh insert in the top! The screen mesh is soft and cushions the boinks and the top does not need to be removed except for cleaning. I'm working on a way to open the bottom so I can insert a removable tray for cleaning as well. Necessity is the mother of invention! *lol*

Yes trios. I know they naturally breed in pairs but I would be incubating the eggs. Also agression in the females is actually proving to be a problem, so i may endup seperating them into pairs. Anybody else have problems with agression in females.

trios of button quail?

I find aggression between females in trios (when I started a long time ago) it is because there is a mated pair established and a female is just there in their territory, even if they have been raised together. The pair ends up trying to drive off that extra female causing injuries.

Are broody hens common. I would like to try to let one hatch there own chicks. I've actually got a peacefull trio with two hens that are laying eggs in the same nest. Could this work or should I just collect the eggs.

I kept my buttons in plastic tubs and they did fine. I changed the beding once a week. when you feed and water dont take the lid off, slid it so you have a small opening to reach in and do what you need to do.
