Craft stores are carrying little plastic and plaster "dove eggs" for the holidays, maybe substitute those for the real eggs to make the hen stop laying?
-Spooky
I tried using them for pickled eggs and they were impossible to peel. This worked really good though - soak the eggs in white vinegar, then you can peel them right off. Regular quail eggs took about 12 hours or less; I put them in the fridge overnight.
Otherwise, if you have a dog, they make great treats.
I had over 100 eggs in the fridge (some buttons but mostly jumbo coturnix) so this past weekend I got creative. I boiled half of them in water, then soaked in vinegar and was amazed and how well this worked. The other half, I just boiled in water with salt and vinegar. I chilled them in ice water and still had a hard time peeling them. Couldn't save even one button egg - all went to the dogs (who LOVED them!) So from now on, I'm doing the vinegar soak thing. Oh - and I was pickling them so it didn't matter.
Thanks for the suggestions guys,..
Right now I have 2 Button Hens laying I think I may restrict their light to try to make them stop laying till spring when I am ready for them to lay,..
At least in spring I could mail the eggs to someone here who wants to hatch them.
