Button quails with pasty butt

Hi there. Button Quail chicks 4 to 5 days old with blocked anus (pasty Butt?) How do I cure the chicks? they are in a brooder box with heat lamp in centre at 40 degrees with plenty of water. This has just commenced today. tried warm water with cotton bud to gently remove what could be washed away, gently patted the area with a soft tissue and placed this one back into breeder. A a watery poo followed shortly thereafter. I read dehydration could be responsible.
Would appreciate advice on what I should do next & what I might have done incorrectly?

When my chicks get pasty butt, I use a qtip and apply warm water to the dried poop to loosen it. Don’t pull just keep applying warm water and slowly using the qtip to move the poop off. Some people use a rag.
