Buyer grief, what would you do?

I ordered three $$$$ eggs that shipped over two 8-degree nights.

I have three beautiful BCM chicks.

Could you just stall the buyer with nice but vague e-mails until he/she gets tired and goes away?

Me too.. I have ordered eggs in below freezing temps and never had any issues. I have had air cell issues, but none frozen. Yes, they were very cold when they arrived and I let them sit for longer to reach room temp and had great hatches. This is why I am skeptical.

In cold environments or even super hot in the Summer, I think that's a great idea. I bet a lot wouldn't be willing to pay that price, though.

I sent a lot of eggs this winter, thru extremely cold weather, and never got anyone saying that their eggs had frozen. In fact one person was upset that her mail man had left the eggs on her porch for several hours in sub 32 degree weather. She incubated the eggs anyway, and wouldnt you know she had a great hatch. Everyone else who ordered in cold weather carefully tracked their eggs and made sure they were available for delivery, or had someone there to accept them.

Im thinking this person doesnt know what frozen eggs are, and simply got a cold box and assumed they were frozen. I would think if they were genuine, they would either tell you they had frozen and cracked (which they didnt say), or that they arrived too cold, but they would incubate them anyway...what do they have to lose? This is a tough call, as I dont sell on ebay simply for the reason of dealing with people like this. You did uphold your end of the agreement. I think I would offer additional eggs for the cost of shipping. If they decline, and leave you negative feedback, you could always explain what happened on your ebay auctions with your shipping policies.

Personally, I smell a rat with this one.

I worked at a company that processed mail. It was not the post office or fedx or any of those but osmetimes accidents do happen as with anywhere. But the box should have been marked as to what was in it. That way if they did read it they would take precautions and if they don't your still covered as trying and it is out of your hands.

I would say yes, it is feedback extortion. I would report it to ebay. You did what you were supposed to do and she was not happy. She was the one who ordered eggs when the temps are freezing where she is located. That is one reason why I wont order eggs till mid-april.

Also, who knows, the buyer could be lying and just trying to get some money back.

Yea I smell a rat too which is why a few pages ago I said to ask him to send them back. Not because I really thought he would send them but because calling him on it may make him back down.
Sending you back the eggs would do nothing for you but make sure he's not still incubating the eggs and trying to get free ones...

If she wants a refund, they you must expect to have the eggs shipped back. After all you have to take a garment etc back to a shop for a refund, ask for the eggs back first before you refund. Do not refund return postage. At the end of the day you do not actually know for sure if they where in fact frozen. If she refuses leave feedback commensurate with what she leaves you.

looks like extortion to me. or someone who doesn't now what a frozen egg is. Shipped eggs are a gamble just like playing the lottery. just better odds with eggs

I had eggs shipped and we had an unexpected cold snap (6 degrees!)
Out of 14, one was cracked, one was not fertile, two developed but didn't make it, but the 10 remaining hatched just fine and all are well.
The only thing I noticed was that 3 pipped on the bottom, I managed to see it & flip them over in time. Before the eggs even arrived the seller offered to replace them (for just shipping costs) if the hatch was bad.

I've also shipped silkie eggs in cold weather and have had buyers tell me they had good hatches.

So I'm suspicious of this buyer's claim that they were frozen & unhatchable. The problem is if you didn't have a disclaimer of some sort, you may just want to refund her money and in future, warn buyers that you are not responsible after the eggs leave you, etc.
