As far as I can see the trickiest part about being away from the chicks for most of the day is keeping their water and their brooder clean. You can get a good chick feeder that keeps the chicks from spilling feed or pooping in it, and get a nipple waterer. It would probably still be beat to be able to take a few days off work if you are getting them through the mail, so you can pick them up right away and takenproper care of them. In the beginning you want to put paper towels over pine shavings for a couple of days until they have figured out what food is (and that pine shavings aren't it. The paper towels get dirty pretty quickly, so you need to change them a few times throughout the day. Also, you'll likely want to play around with the placement of the heat emitter a bit to get the temperature just right. But after a few days you'll have a bit of a routine and it's easy!
