That is the problem with Silkies. People start breeding them and then they are only interested in the "color of the week." They see what people are willing to pay for these "designer colors" and they drive prices through the roof. They breed ANYTHING they can get their hands on to get the color and don't pay any attention to other aspects like top knot size, tight wings, toe spacing, etc... So at the end of the week, when the market is flooded, all you have is a bird with a hint of what was once the "color of the week," and is for all other purposes a pet quality bird. These things RUIN bloodlines, create genetic nightmares, and dont do anything to preserve the breed. And after the "money breeders" get their price, they hightail it and leave the dedicated breeders with a HUGE mess to clean up.
