Buying TSC Chicks Monday!!! Questions to ask and what to look for.

So far, not at ALL! But they are only 5ish days old

I actually keep checking on them to see if they are still alive, they are so quiet. Last year I got 14 Partridge Rocks and they were LOUD! The new EEs are awake, healthy, and playing but very very quiet and not skittish at all, they are always exploring and don't even cheep when I reach in and pick them up. Now the BOs on the other hand...lol, but they are a week older and didn't get handled that first week.

Hmm... o.O Why are mine so loud??? When you pick up the other breeds they sound like "CHEEP" the EE's sound like "CHEEP"!!!
I have no idea why.

That's a good word (words) for it. "ear piercing" It's like their voice is just naturally a much higher octave than the others. They are soprano chickens.

I'm not an expert, but here's what I look at when picking chicks:

NO pasty butt (unless you feel you can help them - somebody's got to do it :-).
Look at their legs and toes (I try to avoid deformities)
Look at the beak (sometimes they don't line up quite right)
look at the eyes. Should be bright and clear.
Try to get them about the same size (age).
And - I like the ones who are running around.. :-)

How do you tell the Silkies from the others? I've never had any or even seen any in real life.

Look at the pics of the chicks under the big pic of the hen.
(I think it's a hen??)

I am going back to TSC tomorrow to get bantams anybody know what breed bantams they have?

I know they have silkies... I think they have cochins. The sign should say. I'm going to TSC today, so I'll look for you. I don't know if mine will have the same breeds as yours, but it's worth a shot. I'm going to try to use my big kid self control skills and not buy any chicks. I have 35 already. O.O 35, really? *sigh* Maybe if they have just one silkie left, I'll get it so it won't be lonely or something.

LOL 35 is probably what i will end up with at this rate...getting 2-3 chicks every other day it wont take long to get 35 lol...that is ok though I have neighbors that will take some if need be
