We had three reds. We went out this morning and left them free ranging in the garden. Came back to a big dark bird that flew off, leaving one dead chicken, most of it eaten. Two other chickens missing.

Do Buzzards or Red Kites kill and eat chickens?!

Not that I know of. I often see buzzards around here but never any sign that they have any interest in the chickens. I would guess it was either an owl, eagle or one of the large hawk species.

You don't show your location. Buzzards are something different in Europe than in the United States.
