Bwa-ha-ha! Idget cat!

Lesson learned for that kitty

Oh, that would not be good--my son lost one of his cats to injuries caused by a dog (we think) about a month ago. He loves the chickens, but he would be heartbroken if they killed one of his cats. On the other hand, that's why we built the coop and run to be so solid--cat, dog, hawk, and (hopefully) raccoon-proof. The cat that got adventurous there is the one that is always dragging sparrows and such into my house to dissect--quite a little bird-catcher, but I think the Welsummers are a bit out of his league.

Hopefully, he's learned his lesson. The other cats all seem to have a healthy wariness of the chickens.

I took my Pomeranian in the coop with me one day. MISTAKE! I thought those hens were gonna kill him...and so did he! They had no idea what kind of woolly worm he was, but they were gonna make him their breakfast! Needless to say, he waits outside the coop for me now.

I had a retired game rooster that would nail a cat in a wing beat. He knew how to use those spurs and went straight for the eyes. When being stalked he didn't bother with typical rooster displays, he attacked with the accuracy of a pit viper. The in laws had a few one-eyed cats who never tried to mess with a chicken. He was just as merciless on french fries, too. However, he performed the wing dance before attacking them.

I wish I could have a similar experience for my Standard Poodles that would teach them to leave my chickens alone, but I don't think that will happen. So, I will leave the in-ground fence up and running.
