I put up a day run for my girls and some stupid nieghbor complained about it so now I have to remove it. I feel the by-law officer is just picking on us, he refused to see the girls home inside and claimed they lived outside. the run is not sucure at all. This weekend I'm taking the run down and using the fencing to fence in my garden, then I'm going to have to figure out how to keep the girls in my yard 100% of the time. Grr, I was told when I went in the office that they could come in and out like a dog or a cat grrrrrrr. Caths are illegal to have outside but they refuse to do anything about it but my chickens who do come inside at night that are restrained so that they can't leave my yard is not allowed. The good news is that our city is doing a report of keeping chickens to be looked at on the 6th.

If you look hard enough and careful enough through the muni and zoning regs I am pretty sure you can find several violations on your neighbor. I would call everyday and complain, you might also check into decibal levels in the code and the like (i.e. # cars, buildings so many feet from things, noise level, dogs barking, keeping lawn landscaped and in good condition) just to name a few. After about 10 visits from code enforcement and/or animal control you could probably go over there and call a truce, then maybe the stupid neighbor will get the hint.
Good Luck

I think i'm going to rename this the never ending story! Some one called the humane society and stated that our ndogs run loose. They never are put out with out us and the times they do get out we are right thier to bring them back in, never more then a few mins. I really think the people 2 doors down is out to get me, I wonder if I should send her a letter and tell her to cease her constant calling.

Don't take down your run. There should be an appeal mechanism short of court to challenge the by-law officer's ruling. If things are as you say they are, take a few pictures of the run and the living quarters and take them to the appeal.

Today we got a nice small video of the lady in the park with her dogs off the leash HAHA she knows we were filming her;) Let the crap hit the fan!

Sometimes I think some people have nothing better to do than pry around and tell on everyone. Who is it hurting if YOUR chickens are wandering in YOUR yard? Sorry your neighbor has to be one of those people dntd. Just be careful with letter writing, she seems like the type of person to take it as a "threat".

Do not remove the run just because the code officer tells you to. Many code officers are on a power trip and love to throw their weght around. Get a copy of the law/ordinance he is citing and read it yourself.

And in the meantime, go to the dollar store or Big Lots or similar and search for some chicken figurines. Ones as realistic as possible--place them ALL over the yard, and move them around frequently. If you can find a recording of a rooster crowing, play that at irregular intervals throughout the day. Also several times first thing in the morning.
