I have yet to read the books, I thought the movie was interesting. I want to find all the books to read them. I adore books about dragons.
If you like those books you should read the Dragon Rider series by Anne MacAffrey.
Her world is soo amazing, The first book starts with a dying queen dragon, who's rider died and only stays alive because her clutch of eggs is about to hatch. When they do, she will teleport to a place that is "between" here and there, and never return.
A bronze rider and his brother are checking local castles for likely candidates who will be asked to come to the Weyr (the place where the dragons and their riders live), They want to give the newly hatched dragons a number of candidates to choose from, the dragon will be bonded to that ONE rider for their whole lives.
The go to this one castle and 1 girl who is in hiding from the evil overlord, she is chosen and she and the baby queen bond.
The dragons on this planet have a job, to belch flames at Thread, another planet comes close to theirs and these spores fall from that planet to theirs,drawn by the gravity.. when thread falls, and if it hits the ground it will eat and eat and eat until there is nothing but bare rock.
The problem, there are not enough dragons to sear thread.
The girl, Lessa finds that she and her dragon Ramoth can go backwards in time, but it takes its toll on her, they have to do it in stages.
She finds dragons and their riders 400 years into the past, and brings them back to her time.
Soon all the Weyrs are full and the dragons rise to fight falling thread. She falls in love, their are good lords, evil lords, and even good and bad riders.
And that is just the first book, there are 3 in that trilogy, all in all the Dragon Riders of Pern have a LOT of books!!!

I've read Eragon, Eldest, and half of Brisinger. I saw the movie as well and actually liked it very much, I'm hoping they make eldest into a movie as well.

I am currently in the middle of Inhertiance right now. Yes, great series! And I agree, WIChookChick, The Dragon Rider series is amazing! I actually think that I like it better than the Eragon series (agast.. i know!) and wish there were many more in that series!

i am reading the series for the 7th time now! (got last book for x-mas 2011 had gotten the 3rd book on the 12th of dec 2011) love his writing! these books are the source of iet ilian.
