BYC Café

Good Morning.... a freezing morning over here, we are in winter now.

Making my tea now, had coffee early this morning already...so cold

Early yesterday evening my Japanese bantam was shaking and 1/3 of her comb turned black. I gave her some VetRX and wrapped her all over and put her inside my shirt so I can warm her up fast. Last year she was living in the dog carrier box in the garage, this year there are 4 bantams so we got them a coop to live in the garden. She is so tiny, she does not have much feather compared to other, and the coop is too big for bantam..this I over looked. So lucky I checked on them.

I put 2 big bottles of hot water and VetRX on top so the box smell warm and toasty. She was fine after I warmed her up. 2 Japanese bantam will be sleeping in the garage in winter from now on. My Pekin are all fluffy balls so they are fine.

My Wyandotte are so beautiful with their big coat, especially the silver laced Goldie, and still they do not want to be out in the full sun, too hot for them, this weather is not cold enough😄

My dogs had their warm porridge this morning and went straight back to bed. They do not bark as much in winter as they can not be bothered, rather stay in their bed instead.

It is so cold now that everything we eat have to include hot soup and pepper. Chickens will get some vitamins drink and extra protein.

Have a wonderful day everyone!

Good evening! I spent much of my day getting ready for the chicks that the grandkids and their parents hatched. They’ve got 7/18 so far, with no more pips. The due date was yesterday.

Funny (to me) story - I was talking with a family friend about the eggs. She is a biologist/college professor who spent time in Madagascar studying Lemurs and has several pet chameleons. She asked me if I was sure the eggs were fertile, and I said, “Yes, I have two roosters and 22 hens.” And she asked again, “But how do you know for sure that the eggs are fertile?” So I looked her in the eye and repeated, “Because I have ‘two roosters’ with my 22 hens. I can guarantee that most, if not all if the eggs will be fertile.”

You know also because you candled the eggs.😄
