BYC Café

This thread never dies - it's fresh, every morning, like the coffee.

Anyway, the lamb stew was a hit! DS$ had one second of wondering who he was having for dinner and then after tasting, his little eyes bugged and he said," Wow! Mittens or Tank tastes great!"
End of story. Now he is totally proud and so is the DH for that matter, to show off the homegrown goodies. I still find it kinda funny that the ones left are the ones that we never nicknamed.
The meat is very, very, very mild tasting, incredibly so. Way better than any lamb I have ever had.

Fun reaction from your son Margie...that must be some stew!

Gave the jumbo mixer a try this morning and it worked fine. I made a double batch of my burger bun recipe (for about 16-18 buns) and that bowl is so deep the dough hook barely reached into the dough. Guess I'll be able to make up a quadruple batch next time, as long I have enough of the Cafe coffee that is.

I love my wife's kitchenaid I know it's not a jumbo but makes baking that much easier

Wow. Must be a big bowl!

We'd better keep an extra pot on just for you.

Ahh our TSC has Indian Red Junglefowl, whatever that is, ISA Browns, Australorp, Cornish Rocks, and I think Silkies? Kinda brown like the ISAs but black legs and beaks.

So I opened the thread and @KDOGG331 is talking about snow, and I'm like "whoa, snow, crazy" and ya, that was some 3 weeks ago.
So needless to say I haven't read the 300+ posts, but I hope all is going well.

It's been a bit crazy here as my sister moved in 3-4 weeks ago. And it hasn't really been going all that well, and there's quite a bit of tension, and my partner and I are disappointed, and well, ya, not how I thought it was going to go. We're going to talk about it tomorrow night and see about a plan moving forward. But I'm incredibly disappointed because I just don't think I'll be able to have her start a farm business here.

So sorry for disappearing, then hijacking and making it all about me.

In happy news, I should be getting my very first chicks next week....all 36 of them. Was I crazy to order so many? Maybe. We'll see...

Now to construct a brooder this weekend. I've gathered quite the hodge podge of materials from around the farm.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the red junglefowl is supposed to be an ancestral species of the modern chicken

Now that you mention it, I thought so too. I Googled it and apparently they are their ancestors (along with grey ones) but some Asian countries domesticated them a long time ago and the domesticated version is supposed to be really good for eggs, maybe meat, and of course free ranging. That said, I doubt that's what TSC has lol
