Pumpkin seeds have good protein content, kale, cottage cheese, tofu and canned catfood is fine for chickens. If you are concerned about mercury stay away from tuna types. I give mine any meat scraps after supper too, cut small.
I give my hens kale almost every day. I get a big bag of it from the Grocery Outlet. They get grass clippings on the weekend but I will not be mowing as much soon

I read in one of the threads that canned cat food is ok to give them. Is that right? Does pumpkin have much protein? I've dusted them 4x , but perhaps I need to do it again.

Can you see any sign of parasites? Egg cases at the base of feather shafts, "dirt" under raised up leg scales, tiny dark freckles on the skin? If you know what parasite you have, it is much easier to get rid of.

What did you dust with? DE? Or a permethrin product? If you can figure out which parasite you have it will be easier to know how to kill it.

As for protein... my local store carries a 20% protein layer feed. However, any meat trimmings work well, also I think calf manna is high in protein and is usually there with the feed.

I've checked them over and don't see any signs of parasites other than some of the leghorns starting to get dirty brown feathers again. Luckily their eggs aren't streaky anymore. I've been using sevin to dust them. I just did a search and found that our local UFA has a fair bit of poultry supplies. I'll be heading there this afternoon.

On a sort of funny side, I've been so busy researching how to help them I forgot to go open their pop door. hit-himself-with-a-bat-smiley-emoticon.gif

I had the buckeyes separated and somehow 2 of them managed to get back in with the leghorns overnight.
