Went to find out what I could find for the hens yesterday. Found out that even to get vitamins/electrolytes for their water I have to obtain a government identification number. Couldn't get blu kote either. So I settled for stop pick. I put it on the buckeyes and immediately 2 of the leghorns starting picking on them. I picked them up and tossed them outside for the night. I'm tempted to throw them into the pot. I also got some 35% layer mash for them. I even went to petsmart and got some bird toys.
As far as mite treatment goes, the only thing available is 5% carbaryl. That's what I've been using already. I'll give them another dusting and see what happens.
Then drove home in 60mph winds (100km/hr). That was fun.

Winds are gone today and the skies are clear.

The government always sticks their heads in where it doesn't need to be. You can use Gatorade and infant vitamins. i would send you some but by the time you got it, probably would be too late anyways. Maybe you could buy from a company online and they could just list the content as pet supplies. Is that chemical the same as what we get here, severn or some such? My mind is a sieve.

Is there someone in a different province in Canada that can get the stuff for you?

In California, mites are resistant to carbaryl(seven). Permectrim still works though. Spinosad is often in garden pest poisons. Check your garden supply store for the stuff.

Sadly every place I've been to only has carbaryl. The only permethryn (sp) that I can find is an aerosol for horse barns. Not meant to put directly on the animals.

I've got some powdered Gatorade I can put in the water...but I was thinking of going to a pharmacy and getting electrolytes for babies. If you buy iodine at the farm store it's even government controlled. Go figure.

So they are trying to prevent you from taking care of the animals!? That is ridiculous. Another reason i hate government.

When we lived in NS i raised dogs and exotic birds. I know i used iodine but had no problem getting it. Of course that was back in the 80s and 90s. The vet used to sell me vaccine for the pups and kittens cheap too.
