BTW My mother was the same way - the rest of the women in the family are normal and go to the doctor when needed. Always had to trick my mother into going because she obviously wanted someone else to take control. So she could said they "made" her go.
When she and I had pneumonia and my infant son was sick also. She would not go to the doctor.. She looked like death warmed over. She would sit on the hall stairs and say she couldn't breath etc. etc. and my brother & father would step around her and ignore her. If I'm lying , I'm dying!!
I firmly told her, I would stop eating until she went to the hospital. Worked like a charm.
The doctor said if she waited another day, she would have been dead. She lost 18 lbs.
I only lost 10, I had walking pneumonia.
