Krista, once upon a time I worked in greenhouses and like your husband the heat did not bother me. The Princess wanted an AC unit, and I said, "No way." That Night I was feeling somewhat amorous, and she said, "No way it's too hot." I went out and bought an AC unit the next day. "Just sayin'."
'Morning Sourland. Hmmm, the power to withhold? Yes, I can see how that might work in my favour!
Honestly, it is just so darn hot here at the moment, and it just doesn't let up. Even at night it's not cooling down, so it's really difficult to sleep. Hot and tired does not make for a good mix. As they say, "Happy Wife, Happy Life!"
Hubby might just have to learn to love sleeping under the fan (*she says as she cranks it up another level...*)
Oh, I do have a chicken-related question if anyone has a second to give an opinion (bolded to stand out)
I found a recipe online and was wondering if it sounds like it would work. I'm wanting to feed strictly organic and nonGMO which is a bit tough around here. This is the recipe (all items are organic). This is grower or layer feed I assume, not chick.
4 cups each of yellow split peas, barley, rolled oats
1 cup each of flaxseed, chia seed, kelp
Does it seem to be missing anything?
chicks arrive May 7. Yay!
Good morning @Terrysgirl. I'm afraid I know nothing about making my own chicken feed (unless you count the bucket of mixed vegies mine get each morning!) but hopefully someone else to follow will have some advice for you.
New chicks?! We love new chicks around here!
How many are you getting, and what type?
I lost one of my Founding Grandma hens yesterday, but I knew she was going soon, so not unexpected. I gave my son the heads-up that his chicken was probably not going to last the week and sure enough, she passed of a heart attack last evening sometime after cold-weather snack and bed.
Good morning Margie. Oh, I'm so sorry for your loss. The fact that it was expected doesn't lessen the pain of losing one you love. As you know, I too have a Grandma Hen ("Momma") and honestly, every extra day is a blessing. I am glad your girl had someone who cared about her and gave her a good home.
Krista, my thoughts are with you today and sending positive energy....
Thank you, I'll take all the positive energy I an get today! Hubby and I are off for our first appointment with the Fertility Specialist, who will (hopefully) be able to help us to have a baby in due course. Like most people, we don't have a lot of money behind us so I am hoping that we don't get stopped just because of that hurdle. I will let you know how I go - fingers crossed everyone.
I have had two goldens and they just eat weird stuff.
The first one would eat the rocks from the floor of the greenhouses.
It made for an interesting x-ray. The next trip to the emergency vet he was full of pine cones.
'Morning 3goodeggs! Oh my - pinecones?! That has got to cause some serious indigestion! I have only had one dog, a "bitsa" who passed away about 6 years ago. He lived to be 15 years old, and was an untrainable, incorrigible, cheeky, messy, disobedient mutt. I miss him every day. Time does heal wounds - but not completely, in my opinion.
................
Good morning Moxie and everyone else to come! As I said, we are up early this morning, and have a 2 hour drive ahead of us to go from the farm to the city for our appointment. We will make the most of our freedom and have a nice lunch out while we are there. Hopefully there will be good coffee (and possibly cake!) involved at least once during the day! I am a MASSIVE cake fan. Getting massiv-er every day, lol! Just kidding - everything in moderation
Have a wonderful day all.
- Krista
