I can honestly say I never once saw snow tires on anything when I lived in KW. Maybe you could get some chains for his tires if he goes with a trike!

Physics.
Calculus...my brain doesn't bend that way.
Pharmacy is a good job. She was smart to switch. Insurance will pay for pills, but people can not afford to care for their animals the way they used to.
I know friends who may never pay off their student loans because the veterinary practices are really suffering around here.

@3goodeggs oh so true - my mums cat (now mine) Fleabot very undignified name I know -(Felix) is a rescue cat I got for mum about 4 years ago (because she wanted something to cuddle).but she still goes to bed with teddy every night!!. Felix has been 'looked after by the carers when they have time and is very arthritic (can't spell)

I took him to the vet here and they gave him metacam but it makes him so sick and they will not give anything else. The vets here are as bad as the doctors - I just don't understand when there is pain medication for animals and people why they are so mean and won't help. We do not have the problem in Africa - it may be backward but at least if you or your animals are sore they help.

I have to admit that I failed miserably at maths at school actually got an 'A; for art. The question was something like how long would it take 4 men to dig a ditch 5ft by 3ft with the wind blowing at whatever and serveral other things. I drew a ditch with the men and the wind and coloured it in and added a train and and...Don't know where my daughter gets her brain from because I use mine for balancing - just.

Saw a superb sign today ' STOP DUCKS CROSSING' then further down the lane was same sign but with frogs crossing - didn't have my camera but will go past tomorrow and take a photo just for NFC she is the sign queen xxx

Yes still in the 'pile' as they say here - but not for long

Will definitely be selling. Mum is very sick at the moment with a bad chest - she can hardly breathe and STILL waiting for the doc - I have done a nebulizer which I brought from Africa but there is no way she can continue here with the 'carers' even though the
they are good. They just don't pick up when she is sick and she never complains so they accept what she says - absolutely daft - she is 90 and doesn't even know when or if she is sore...

Just wish I was away with MtnM up there where the air must be wonderful and at this stage would even, dare I say it, like the bears!!!

love all and thanks again for all support, really don't know what I would do without you all poor DH has gone to ground and doesn't answer me anymore - probably because he is deaf lol

Veterinary costs are insane. I spent a lifetime working for, with, and around veterinarians And other than euthanasia, blood work, and surgery do all of my own animal work. I go to a good veterinarian who sadly enough is my age and threatening to retire. After him I find that many of the younger vets are short on common sense. Does that sound like a disgruntled old man talking?

@whoop whoop I saw that...so I'm the sign queen am I? Then you better get me a picture of two for my collection!

Did you say you would be able to take Fleabot back to SA with you? It sounds like he needs a home too. Speaking of homes, how is your dad doing in his place? Have you found something for your mom (or is she going to where your dad is)?

Take care of yourself. Have you been able to spare any time to get to a good bookstore?

Lots of questions, sorry!

You don't sound like a disgruntled old man sourland, you sound like a smart guy who knows the sad state of things.

Quote: For the most part we have always had good vets. They retire and die and just give up trying to run a practice.
We have a good vet who is long on compassion.
She doesn't seem to be in it for the money, which is a good thing. She gives us the multi-dog discount, which is another good thing.
If it weren't for the cost of it, I think I would have twice as many dogs.
I am the crazy dog lady who understands the practical limits of ownership.

My vet (a personal friend) is one of the GOOD GUYS. When Hurricane Sandy struck and his practice was shut down because of no electricity he continued to pay his staff even though there was no income coming in. I doubt that he will ever retire - he worries too much about his staff, and frankly it's questionable that his veterinary associates could take over the practice.
