NFC, i think all the time is coffee time for you!
Good morning everyone
.... aaaaannnnnddddd here come the spring storms... 20-35cm starting tomorrow night (30cm = 1 foot)
K - I thought I'd be like that with my pigs. We slaughtered our first one in November. I was really surprised when I was able to skin her and help butcher her. I was even more surprised when I was able to eat her without any problems. Pretty darn good for a city girl if you ask me. I found that once it was dead it was totally different. I guess because there was no personality anymore.
We raised meat rabbits in FL. The first one we butchered (ok, DH butchered) bothered me. But that soon passed. To me, the rabbits were only cute the first 8-10 days after they were born, after that they were kind of a pain and had no personality (and no names).
Very true!Good morning everyone

Finally getting my coffee! I only made it 4 hours ago
Bit of a comedy of errors and very minor inconveniences this morning, just need to take a big breath and smile.
I was also raised in the city (burbs), but my parents cultivated in me a love of gardening, the outdoors, a sustainable lifestyle and to think critically about the world around me. I helped process our first chicken but DH did the slaughtering. I handled it better then I thought as well. I had be researching and looking at pictures for months before hand, so maybe that helped. But I'll admit, one day I was feeling pretty weepy as I handed off the roos to go to the block. Only been a year and a half on the farm, I hope we make a good go of it here!
Take a can of beer, open it, lay it on its side with the mouth closest to the ground. Makes an excellent slug trap. They can't resist beer. They're lushes. We have almost 3 acres so we were like always outside too although we did like video games and caetoon or movies too haha
And used to garden some but we weren't very good at it ha
But I recently started gardening again.
We tried a few years ago but it didn't really work cause we planted directly in ground in a somewhat sandy and overly sunny area and the deer ate what did grow lol
But this year, well last year now, I started growing from seed and bought some raised beds on Amazon and actually got a harvest. I grew tomatoes and peppers. In the bed, the peppers mostly got eaten by slugs and/or overshadowed by tomatoes and stunted but I did put one in a pot that grew huge and did really well.
So I'm thinking this year I am going to try growing more in pots and/or treat the slug problem.
And try different tomatoes. We got TONS of tomatoes but I only planted Romas which aren't really good raw and on sandwiches and stuff and were a bit meaty rather than juicy so I think I might try some different varieties this year haha
And other plants like maybe cucumbers or something

Beautiful there in UT and northern AZ, I hope you have a great time! It's good to get away from the homestead and get a break.

Thank you IM, we're really looking forward to it! We've been together almost 8 years and this is only our 2nd vacation...definitely time to take a break.
DH is driving his white truck, my car will be safe in the garage
When you're right, you're right!
Romas are good for canning so get something like Big Boys or an heirloom variety for your sandwich/salad tomato. And cokes are easy, give them a try!
Lush bugs!
