So I think we're inside until later this afternoon now. Had the little one splashing in a kiddie pool while I tried to tend to the garden. Need to get the tomato plants in (need to get several dozen things planted but I always seem to drop the ball!)

This weather is about as hot as it should get around here...but usually not in May! 30 days ago it was 8 degrees (46F)!
Chickens slowed down their laying when it first started to get hot a couple weeks ago. But I guess they're used to it now and production is up.

@Mtn Margie I know it's such a huge amount of work, but part of me really wants to have some similar experiences I guess we might as we do plan on getting larger animals; but not for another 3-4 years I think.

Tree need to know you have like 8 Mother hens trying to pull you under girl...
Had neighbor with sheep as a kid stink to high heaven but might be Dad taught me that folks down the road had a few goats the one son my age would be out playing tag with the goats

Ha ya, everyone always wants me to get goats but I was leaning more towards sheep.
But that decision won't be made until we really know what will work well on our farm and be able to earn it's keep.

Any animal can be a pain. Billy goats STINK and the stink stays with anything that it touches. No washing it off. Go sniff a wether, both goat and sheep, and see which one you like best because that is what you will smell like when you are dealing with them.
Sheep do have personalities and they cause their own kind of chaos in the barnyard.
I do not know about the common diseases for your area. Most would hit both kinds of critters. If you want to shear them for wool or brush them for cashmere, then you need to plan accordingly.

I have another small weak lamb out of a well fed ewe. Not sure if it is bloodlines or something else that I might be doing. All of the other ones have been good sized, but these weak ones were out of a mom and daughter, both crossed with the same ram. There is one more cross to go and if there is another weak one, we will probably sell that ram.

Hmm sounds like it's either the ram or maybe that line of females? Have they had healthy lambs before?

Head butting is their way of saying hello, and also determines dominance. They rarely butt people in my experience.

You have to teach them not to, right?

I got the little guy to suckle from a bottle this last feeding. That is progress!

I never had a goat try to butt me, though i did get hit once or twice by accident when one was going after another. I didn't have to train them not to butt people.
