When I was a teen I remember 'them' saying there were two forms of rabies(in dogs anyway) furious and dumb. furious of course was snapping and biting at anything around it even to the extent of breaking their own teeth. Dumb rabies, they couldn't bite or swallow, so no eating or drinking. Because they couldn't drink rabies used to be called
hydrophobia - fear of water. They weren't afraid of it, they just couldn't drink.

Old folks(me) can remember old stuff. My short term memory is gone.
I have a neighbor who's horse got rabies from a bat. Had to put down 2 horses. Plus, she was infected too, and had to take that painful series of shots. :barnie such a shame, she had some gorgeous show horses. :drool
Didn't know horses could get rabies but I do now!

Alaskan want to know what is worse than clay? Try gardening or anything, on property that was once a quarry. It's impossible in our immediate area ,to dig down farther than a few inches without the scritchy noise of hitting rock. Never little rocks, always boulder type rocks. If you manage to extricate them - the dirt around it will drop several inches. I never have anything to fill the holes with. Sometimes I would put them back.

Some city person, and yes, she was a blond. Said she noticed all the big boulders "growing", her word not mine, in the forest preserve at one side of the street. I tried to tell her that they didn't grow there. People dug them out of their yards and dumped them in the woods. She insisted they were growing there.

Another observation of hers was that trees knew electricity(electric wires) were bad and that's why they branches didn't grow near them. The electric company cuts off any branches (sometimes the heart of a tree) to keep them away from the wires. You can plainly see they have been cut. They might as well just remove the trees, because they are so misshapen that they end up breaking in the next windy spell or storm.

One more story of hers and then I'll quit. She said people could easily find another planet to live on because they ALL have oxygen just like ours. Aside from trying hard not to laugh, she always gave me a bad headache.

I have a headache now, just from telling all of this.

Omg :th (It's kind of scary running into people like that!)

Poor Old Yeller got the hydrophobia :hit

I think that all mammals can get rabies - opossums maybe not ? Rabies is endemic in my area. Several years ago it became epidemic. That year there was an apparently rabid skunk in my back yard, an apparently rabid woodchuck in my back yard, apparently rabid raccoon that attacked my truck, and an apparently rabid fawn down at the beagle club. It became my habit to carry a very heavy walking cane wherever I went.

There was a similar situation about 10 years back when I lived in northeast KS...lots of rabid skunks. Our poor neighbor boy tried to walk down his drive to meet the school bus and ended up getting chased around his house by a rabid skunk. Far as I know, that kid is still terrified of skunks (not that I particularly like them either).

Good morning, Café, and thanks for the coffee. Boys won again last night 9/4. Top of the 4th inning they were down 4/0, but then the boys started hitting. Grandson pitched as a closer - faced 7 batters. First got a double but the rest either popped or struck out. This was a 44 team tournament @ $1,200 per team. Somebody is making a lot of money, but this is a really nice facility that has to be maintained. Tournament is broken into 3 segments so I guess there will be 3 eventual winners. Boys are doing really well as they are playing 'up' against kids that are a year older. These kids are skilled, but the big thing is that they don't get flustered. They don't think they can lose and frequently come from behind. Most teams save their best pitcher until they face these kids.

Good job team! :clap

Good job team! :clap

I believe that they advance immediately to the finals because of their record. If so they play at 6:30. Grandson threw less than 25 pitches so he is eligible to pitch if needed. Of the 16 member team roster at least half are good to excellent pitchers.
