My oldest daughter moved in with her grandparents to go to college up in KY. On our first visit, on the drive home, her sisters commented that at least her boyfriend had decent teeth. Surprised by the conversation, I asked them about their comment. They asked if I had noticed people's teeth up there. Not really. They replied that I should have paid more attention. They complained that most people up there had yellow, nasty looking teeth, and quite a few were missing teeth. Age didn't matter. The younger folks had nasty teeth too. They definitely wouldn't kiss anyone with a mouth that looked like that. It's like they had a shortage of dentists, and dental supplies for good oral hygiene.

The next time we went up, I paid more attention. I even commented to mom about it. Yes, they had dentists up there, but we were right. It seems the oral hygiene lecture from the dentist went unheeded.
My teeth are not that bad. Yellow from too much Pepsi years ago. But none missing. I just can't handle lectures when i am so nervous i could jump out of my skin. There is more than one way to care for a patient.

As a kid had fluoride treatments at the dentist. I don't know when it was added to the water. Still had a lot of cavities those days ate candy like I was starving. Think the switch to ice cream helped many years later. I know I didn't knock myself out brushing and back in the day they didn't mention flossing.

At some point??? in life I got serious about my teeth and started having "no cavities" checkups.

I drank well water growing up. Did not have fluoride treatments, but did use a good fluoride toothpaste. I'm still drinking well water. My teeth are very healthy, and not yellowed much. The yellowing on my teeth comes from using Tetracycline as a child. I was allergic to Penicillin. Tetracycline is known for turning teeth yellow when given to young people. They don't use it on kids much now, for that very reason. I had them whitened when I was about 30, and that helped a lot.

My mother was fastidious about making us brush after every meal, and especially right before bedtime. We had to floss too. My mother went in for yearly teeth cleanings, and there was nothing to clean. They actually cleaned her teeth lightly about every 3 - 4 years. That's all she needed. I do the yearly cleanings.

The only issue I have had with my teeth, was during chemo. It caused me to develop cavities under both of my fillings. I could not get them fixed during chemo, so I had to have them removed. When I finished chemo, I went back to the dentist expecting major work needing to be done. Nope. A cleaning was all I needed.

Thanks for the cup of Joe, IM

Getting a late start this morning. I'm fed up with insurance companies, doc's and all the stupid regulations/rules. It would be easier just to pay the feds the 900+ fine (tax) and do without than fight this mess all day.
Oh you have to do this, you need to see this doc, you need this paper, now you need to go back to this doc, that's the wrong form, etc, etc etc....:barnie:he:idunno:smack:mad:
Off my rant! Oh BTW, Everyone make it a great day! :celebrate
