BYC Café

Have you guys ever tried Halavah, it's a middle eastern treat. It's made from ground sesame seeds. My late Arab doctor told me they put it on bread and eat it like a sandwich. Jews generally have it as a treat. It's a taste you have to acquire and extremely rich. That means even I cannot eat more than a little bit at a time.

Comes in flavors too. Generally it is a light color and may have pistachios in it, sometimes dipped in dark chocolate. You can also get it in a light chocolate color/flavor. I've seen it in a grocery out here and you'll definitely find it in Arab neighborhoods.

Texture is dry and crumbly and it is expensive. Plus the texture makes it very hard to slice to an exact weight.
Oh yes,
Soft sesame halva is made from sugar syrup, egg whites, and sesame seeds. Solid sesame halva is made from pulled sugar, repeatedly stretched to give a white colour; prepared sesame is added to the warm sugar and formed on big trays.

Here they make something called Torron which is a nut paste and with honey.
You find it in the shops at Christams.
Failing the above Marzipan will do.
