BYC Café

I'm away down the village in a bit to meet the chicken keeping guys. We've been trying to meet up on a regular basis. We take over a corner of one of the bars. Apparently we have a new member.........wait for it.............she's female!:th:lau
Now this may not seem odd on BYC, but here, chicken keeping is a mans thing. You would not believe the fussing and pride involved.
The last tip I got told by one of these guys was to use beeswax and propolis to polish a roosters spurs and legs.........not that anyone suffers from any type of obsession or anything.:p

:gigAre you serious? Polish his spurs...that is pride in your work right there!

Glad you have a female tgat broke the mold. Hope she doesn't muck things up for you fellas. Is there drinking involved?

Only coffee. Drunkenness is pretty rare here. One reason is the bars don't have an age limit so there are often children and families in the bars.
Apparently she's bringing two of her roosters. It will be like watching a bunch of mums admiring babies at a maternity unit.

Yes I remember you talking about the bars there and kids coming along with the adults.

I had to smile at the thought of you all sitting around admiring the roosters, are they allowed inside?

They are at this bar. You may have seen the leg straps used when showing game fowl. That's something like what they use here. If it's sunny, but not too hot most sit outside. This bar even has a dish of cooked snails as treats.:D

That's very cool, escargot for the roosters! I thinks it's interesting how much they are part of your lives there, at least for the locals and regular guys like you. Do you have a favorite you take from time to time?

Morning Cafe!

Would have been here sooner but had about 80 posts to catch up on...the Cafe was hopping yesterday.

I've been good and spent a while working on an article for BYC.
How do you get 13 pages compressed to something the average BYCer will read?

I suggest you leave out every other word and call it a mystery! :gig

Snowpack/flood estimates in CO. NFC, I bet NOAA has a WY map for you too.

I just got my garden tilled in the valley and only planted some seeds up here by the house.
June 1 is a pretty safe time to plant... usually...
My cabbage starts are sitting here watching me type.

Thanks for the link Margie, I'll check it out!

Meatys home safe. A little worse for wear, but alive. :weeThank you for all the good thoughts & prayers! :hugs I woke up this morning feeling very at peace with the day, as opposed to that dark cloud I'd been carrying around.
He's still pretty wasted, so I'm gonna see if I can get him to relax a bit. :frow

Best wishes to Meaty Roomy!

Hello cafe, fresh pot of coffee is ready if you need it.

I'm supposed to be working but I really don't wanna so I'm dragging my feet through every call. My boss is going to have something to say but I don't care about that either.

I wasn't going to share here but you guys will eventually find out...I really don't want to be downer so it's just so it isn't a surprise if it comes up at some point...I'm pretty sure there's Marek's here and I had to put my older birds down last weekend, all 6 of them so I'm left with only the chicks now. I've discovered there's a ton of info available about the disease itself but not a lot about long term care and maintenance when living with it on the premises. I'm going to write an article about that as a way of helping get over it and to learn more so I give my chicks the best possible chance of surviving.

So sorry for the health issues IM. Sharing what you're going through in an article could be a real help to others. :hugs

And now for another pot of coffee...

Well, she turned up with a gorgeous Black Minorcan rooster. She has 3 tribes. Apparently the two roosters kicked off in the van so she took one back.
I've got to say this, her rooster made the lot here look like bag ladies.
Clean spurs that looked like ivory. A couple of small fight wounds on the comb but healing up nicely. Perfect leg scales and very well behaved.

Because you can't really mix roosters, especially in a bar, the rule is only one person brings a fowl. My turn hasn't come around yet. I don't really have a favorite. They've all got something special about them; as have the hens. The more elderly hens, well I've known them a long time so I suppose I treat them slightly differently. Given they are the seniors, the juniors don't take umbrage.
