Good morning, Cafe. Thanks for the coffee.
I'd like to find some of the green K-cups here. There are instructions on how to rip apart and recycle the ones with the plastic but I seriously don't see me ever doing that.

Yesterday turned out to be nothing more than discussing the trial with the doctor and signing consent forms. It took poor DH about 2 minutes each time he had to sign his name. The ability to write is one of the many things AD robs you of that most people don't realize.

We return in 2 weeks for all the testing. If he is accepted into the trial that day, I'm unsure if we are walking out the door with the medication. I suppose I'll read the full study schedule in more detail today.

And now his family is starting to interfere with him getting started on this trial. DH wants to be in it. We are planning a vacation for him for 3 weeks down in VA, WV and PA. But I need to know his schedule in the trial first. So his sister is trying to imply that "it really isn't necessary to be in the trial. It's just voluntary and it probably won't help." Oh? I guess the pharmaceutical company failed to confer with her before investing millions of dollars in this drug study. ANYTHING that might help is worthwhile.

I've been watching Ruffles with her chick and the behavior of the rest of Tribe 1.
Now don't get me wrong, Ruffles is lovely, but she isn't one for high activity if it can be possibly avoided. True her leg isn't 100% but that doesn't stop her breaking into a bit of a gallop if there is any food in the offing. She is out and about with the chick.....sort of.:p
Just out might be a better description. She does a few seconds worth of scratching, looks at the chick as if to say' you got this now' and sits down. She has done some edible bug training and half heartedly pulled at a few grass shoots.
Basically if she could sit down and give verbal instructions to the chick rather than a demonstration this would be her preferred teaching method.
Cillin arrives and the first thing he does when he sees Ruffles sitting down is hustle her onto her feet whereupon Ruffles goes into semi energetic scratching mode until Cillin wanders off and promptly sits back down again. It would be easy to think that Cillin thinks Ruffles should be doing more showing than instructing from a distance while sitting down.
He checks on her quite often and every time Ruffles sees him coming she gets up and looks busy.:D

His sister only needs to be wrong once on something like this.

Good morning and thanks for the coffee! DL, I hope it goes well and DH can get on that trial. I am sorry the sister is being like that considering there is a slight possibility that she also could benefit from the trial...
Stay safe in the heat you All and HUGS!

Thanks, Margie.
DH is the youngest of 7. One of his sisters also has AD. Their father died from it. His older sister seems to be doing MUCH better than DH. He has early onset, she doesn't. He did about every drug known to man during his retard years. She never had retard years.
I get the impression that none of his siblings really have any idea just how bad he is. They'll get a small glimpse during the week he stays down there.

Hang in there! Research is making progress.

I agree!
It's just astounding how far we've come in treating cancers and other horrid diseases. AD gets a lot of research dollars thrown at it. I have hope for this trial. I wouldn't just present DH with it and suggest he try it if I hadn't done my homework and thought it might help slow down the disease progression. He's been showing symptoms for about 9 years. Although in the earliest stages I just thought his symptoms were those of the typical man "you just don't listen to me!" He couldn't. I feel bad about not recognizing them earlier.
It then took 7 years to get a definitive diagnosis because the local neurologists are a bunch of quacks and his PCP just felt it was just normal aging absent-mindedness. I kept telling him it wasn't. Kept reminding him his father died from AD. No one listened.
By the time he got a definitive diagnosis, he was already in the early moderate stage.

My Aunt had it at least 11 years when she passed away. Idk how long Mom had it because I was out of state and my parents never mentioned it. I believe my Dad had it too, but never was tested. I have been tested but the doctors say my memory is fine. It is NOT. So frustrating.

My mom used to have one - a million years ago. Then she got a Corning Ware pot and it got stained badly inside . I've never been a coffee drinker- so can't understand the addiction some folks have, like my brother. :tongue
It is like some that are addicted to ice cream...but with a bit of a drug component from the caffeine.

Id does not sound like Family is being helpful.

I read an article that said it is hard to get people into trials. That might be one of the reasons
