Thanks, that’s helpful. I was actually thinking of maybe letting her sit for a while then getting her some? Because I think I had read similar about them needing to sit for about the time it would take to hatch so wouldn’t get these ones but more wondering if it would be a better idea I guess? It made me think of the possibility of chicks instead of eggs. But of course I don’t know if Tractor Supply would have chicks in a couple of weeks. I guess I’ll have to see. Idk. Do you think it would be best to give her some real eggs or to wait and let her adopt some chicks?
Even after waiting, be sure to have a brooder ready for them

My son rescued this pup from the neighbor. He's been outside in the heat, no food or water, left to sleep under the trailer and no one has been home for days. There are shut off notices for the electricity and past due tax bills from the county. Poor little guy. They named him Finley.

Oh yeah, I definitely would! And if I go with eggs, I plan to have the incubator ready and waiting too. Just in case.

Either/or on the incubation or chicks. With incubation about half will be cockerels - with chicks your odds favor pullets especially if sex links.

Thank you! I appreciate all the help and info. Do they usually have a harder time accepting chicks or are they pretty good if they’ve been sitting long enough? The ones in the store were RIRs and Red Rangers, both straight run. I don’t think I want meat birds so would probably go RIR. But idk what they will have in a few weeks or what the other stores have. They may have different options.

Are straight run chicks still better odds of getting pullets than eggs or is it still 50/50?

Straight run means you get what you get, they haven't been sexed.

That is very nice of your Son!

Did you see the neighbors leave? Maybe a welfare check is in order

Yeah, I’ve read that but wasn’t sure if it was still better odds or the same as hatching cause sour had said chicks sometimes have better odds of being pullets. Maybe that doesn’t apply to straight run chicks?? Even labeled pullets can sometimes be roosters right? So maybe that’s what sour was meaning? Could still be a roo but much better odds and then straight run is the same odds as hatching?

I think I’m overthinking this haha
