Morning TonyaGood morning Cafe.
Sorry to hear about your mother, Bunny.
We had some pretty intense thunderstorms go through again yesterday. They knocked out the power here for 5 hours.
On the way home with another load of wood mulch was when it first hit. I was driving down front street when DH and I both noticed a large tree branch leaning on the power lines. At the exact moment I drove past, they grounded together and a HUGE flash, sparks and boom sounded. I swear I felt it. I floored the accelerator and shot down the road a good quarter mile. I was shaking like a leaf.
My Mom was also admitted to the hospital Wednesday. My useless nephew who lives with her is on his much needed vacation from his exhausting job that has him working 12 to 20 hours a week so Mom was alone and had to call an ambulance. I was at work and didn't hear about it until she called me from the ER. She couldn't breath. She is on oxygen and "respiratory therapy". She still sounds short of breath.
When I suggested maybe it's time to lose the cigarettes she gets very defensive. This is one of those situations that I can do nothing about... except feed her cat for her and visit her.
Sean,Morning Tonya
Tonya, my mom did the same thing until the last time she had to go to the ER, she finally quit...cold turkey after her 3rd time to the ER. She lived another 10 years after quitting, she passed from emphysema. It's not a pretty disease to have....not being able to breath is horrible. She hated the respiratory treatments, the nebulizer and such...![]()
I use to put toothpicks, horse hair in my mom's cig's ...it didn't stop her either....the last time she was at the ER, I told her if she didn't quit, she'd never live long enough to see her grandchildren grow up. She later told me between the talk we had and the one she had with the Creator, asking to let here live if she quit smoking, is when she finally decided to quit. I never ever thought she would, either. I took care of both my parents for the last 25 years of their lives....it was the hardest thing I ever did, knowing that each day was the best day either one of them would have, again....Sean,
My mother has the most addictive personality of anyone I've ever met. She has been smoking for 55 years and will never quit.
I told her that when I went back to feed her cat I was going to throw away every cigarette I found and toss her ashtray. She instantly got mad and defensive. Because she is owned by these little cancer sticks that are going to kill her. She's already had a kidney and her thyroid removed due to cancer and there is a spot that shows up on her chest films all the time. She won't quit. Ever. She'll be one of those little old ladies you see pulling down her oxygen mask to have a drag on her cigarette. It's just sad.

Yep, me too but after watching Mom go through all that... I quit cold turkey too...I'd still like to have a smoke, especially when things get hectic.Sad, but it made me smile - I can picture you doing that. Addiction of any form is a b*tch. I've quit alcohol and nicotine - neither was easy, but nicotine for me was the worst.
