BYC Café

I did try to talk to Tribe 1's hens, Hinge, Bracket and Nolia about this mass sit.
I explained the boys were lonely not having anyone to try and boss about.
I explained about Bracket neurological problems and that it was quite warm for them all to be inside.
I mentioned the impracticality of being flooded with chicks if they hatched all the eggs they had accumulated between them.
I even tried the, Nolia has got the start of SLM and it would be better to treat her knowing no Vaseline would contaminate the eggs.

I don't know how Hinge got elected as spokesperson but when I slid my hand under her to lift her off her eggs for food etc, she set about me with some serious pecking shouting "you wanted us to sit so we're sitting! What's your problem?"
I haven't learned much in 64 years of life, but I do know arguing with three females at once is rather like pissing into the wind.

I love a well educated man!!

:lau:gig:lau

I've got four sitting at the moment. Mel has made herself at home in the house nest box; and the three witches of course.
There is also the small matter of Ruffles still in the maternity unit with her chick (I think it's female:confused:) and of course 'do you wanna fight' Knock who is terrorizing the area in front of the vegetable patch where the coops are with her two chicks (don't have a clue as to their sex).
Any chicks the bantams hatch (Tribe 2) will be pro tree huggers. It looks super cute with the whole tribe lined up on various branches. That cute fades away very rapidly when you're trying to find the last one and it's dark and pissing down with rain.
Tribe 2 already has two roosters. They have had three before, a hen each and that seemed to work okay. The witches are bound to hatch some males.

For some reason the bantam males have been very tolerant of other males in the tribe. The other tribes not so much. Treacle is getting quite a hard time from his dad Cillin. Cillin hasn't tried to drive Treacle out of home, or inflict any injury on Treacle, but he is pretty hard on him. But, Treacle does get to mate with the hens. He always gets to eat, but last. He moves with, and sits with the tribe and in general seems well settled.

Have you been watching lots of chicken TV while your mans away DL?

:D

I have discovered a lovely side effect of having Captain coming into lay.
When I was adding wheelbarrow fulls of shredded wood chips to the run to build up the thickness today, Fabio was getting irate with me.
After I finished that I brought them their afternoon mash. Fabio saw me coming and was marching up to me on the warpath. I was about 20 feet away when Captain had a go at an unwilling pullet in the run. The pullet took up shrieking and suddenly Fabio couldn't care less about me, turned on a dime and high tailed it into the run to take care of his real rooster duties. :D

Have a cup of coffee - fresh pot is on me. Second day of the field trial was held today. I entered the dog that I have been training for my recently deceased friend Jerry. She won the class. It was bitter sweet as the last that I talked to him he had planned on being there. :(
