That makes sense. The strong survive to build a stronger and more resilient bunch. I try not to get too worked up about the chicks. That's not to say it's not upsetting, but it's a reality unless I lock them up until they're full grown. Some would say that that's exactly what I should do, but I beg to differ. I won't feed them to the wolves, mind you, but I cannot be there every minute to babysit. I believe their lives are better if they can free range, but I know not everyone has that luxury. It sounds harsh but you have to accept a lot of chicks wont make it free ranging.
I know I've written this before because I can still recall some of the outrage but I don't worry over much about the chicks; it's the loss of a hen that upsets me.
Despite the impression some might get from my posts, the chickens here are quite feral now and it seems that each generation deal with the predators better than the generation before. They still die, but if they lived I would be killing them because I can only cope with so many. What one does notice is the chickens, mums, dads, chicks, all use cover much more than they did when I first came here.
We have wind here too but not more than 20mph and usually a lot less than thatIt is windy here most of the time. And if it's not windy, it seems creepy! So quiet.

But! Now I can quit worrying myself into muscle spasms over it
. Did get a round of antibiotics because of the swelling, so all in all, probably a good idea. Thanks for the shove. Per DL's suggestion, I will keep moving until bedtime. You Cafe peeps are the bomb
