BYC Café

I just got back from having breakfast with her. Super nice lady!

It's going to be dicey because her not so DH just got laid off from work 2 weeks ago. He is watching her and suspects something is up.

She called the State police and asked if someone could be there when she is in the process of leaving. They told her to call them 15 minutes before she plans to leave. They also said that if he puts up a fuss about her taking the chickens and her older husky that she would have to leave them behind and take it up with the judge. She is not going to leave them.

She's come up with her story that she is only leaving to give the two of them some space and that if he doesn't let her take the birds and the dog he'll never see her again. With the cop standing right there. She hopes that will get her out the door. Then she's never going back. The guy is an alcoholic and has been an active one for 16+ years. Their entire marriage. Had it hidden from her pretty well in the beginning but not so much as time went on. It's also how he has now found himself unemployed. The timing of his job loss is certainly not working in her favor.

Crap! History stays if she leaves them they'll be dead. Is there any way she could take the animals first? Horrible situation this. :(

Wow. Sounds like a pretty scary situation to be in. That's ridiculous that she'd have to leave the animals.
"All property acquired during the marriage is considered marital property unless it was a gift". Oooo! I just remembered. She told me that he gave her those chickens as a gift. She's got him on that technicality!!!
I had a similar problem when I got divorced. My ex was trying claim he wanted Dylan. So I would take the two dogs, Dylan and Abby, to my friends house every day before work then pick them up on my way home. Her mother said "leave them here and tell him you sold them to me for $50, give him his half of the money and tell him to shut up!". I always liked her...

Good morning, Cafe.
It's a nippy 18F this morning.

Do you all remember that lady that is a member of BYC that lives in my town who was looking for someone to foster her chickens because she is fleeing a very abusive relationship? She found a place where she is moving that will allow her to bring her flock there. She has already put up a coop and run for them at the new location. She will be driving there soon. It's a day and a half trip with the stop for sleep.

I warned her to look out for coccidiosis due to the new strains her flock will be exposed to and offered her some of my Corid. We are meeting at Gigi's this morning for breakfast and so I can give her the Corid. I will be nice to meet someone that I know only from BYC. I hope she makes a clean getaway and stays safe from her soon to be ex.
I remember you writing about her but I didn't realise she was a BYC member.
Good to read she can keep her chickens and lose her husband.

Not quite so good with the chicks tonight. Mel's youngest female cam back to the house.
I did try to walk her back up to the tribe's coop but I was running out of light and still had three more coops to go. I picked her up and carried her to the ramp and bum shoved her up and in. She was fine with it. A bief note of complaint when I picked her up. I tucked her into my chest and chatted to her as I carried her and in she went. Mel's white chick has usually been the last to roost and he made his way in after I had injected his sister.:D
Hurry hasn't quite got the message yet. Fortunately she comes back to the nest site coop and once again didn't get stressed when I carried her guided her up the ramp. It's partly the ramps that are the problem. Most chickens here like to look into the coop before they go in. This isn't so easy when a ramp is involved.
Nice for me to handle the chicks though.
The three witches have got all this sorted, mainly because the chicks hatched in the coop. They still crowd into the nest boxes under the perch but recently it's been one with chick in one box and the other two in the other box with one of the chicks.
Knock is having a few problems with her two boys; they've got fairly boisterous. I'll probably eat one of them.

Hello Cafe, been busy building a run. Coming along well.

Hi Cafe people!

I'm trying to get caught up from being out of town. It's so easy to get behind!

Meg, I had a wonderful b-day thank you for asking.

Dobie, hope things work out for the BYC'er you met...those situations can get pretty dicey.

Shad, I read that article, it was well done.

Time to start getting dinner ready, see you all tomorrow!
