If we could get her in the head catch, it might not be awful, but those horns make her a bit hard to work. I think I'd be afraid I'd screw her hairdo up and then she really couldn't see

DH, DS@ and DS# are all heading to AZ to hang with DS!+family.
DS$ and I will have a quiet fort to hold down......

I think she's going to come good thanks Meg. She's in a bit of pain. I think she wrenched her wings in trying to escape so flight is out of the question. At least this means I don't have to get her out of the tree at night.
She'll get another clean up and check over tonight.

Did you ever have to stitch her? How old is she? She's a tough ol' bag

I may have maligned barking Bracket. She got all her chicks in in one hit this evening. Before, she would go in and get into the nest box. The chicks wandered around below the ramp calling for her. Bracket only came out to show them how it's done once. Day one, I got them in. Day two, I got them in. Day three one in on it's own and I did the rest.
Tonight Bracket marched up the ramp calling them to follow, turned at the top of the ramp and called them and up they all marched in single file. No fuss getting into the nest box either.
There's more...Bracket has kept the chicks slightly apart from the tribe until today. The chicks are mobile enough now to get up the concrete steps where Tribe 2 have their favorite shelter spot. Barcket has has them up their most of the day. Tonight at treat time the chicks were mixing in with the adults, Bracket completely unconcerned even when one of the chicks got a warning peck from Rivit.
This amounts to full on integration in four days basically.
I might need to pop round and offer Bracket a few walnuts by way of an apology for slandering her mothering abilities.
Knocks chicks have been going in on their own for a few nights now. The funny part is they go in exactly like their mum. Knock does't walk up the ramp from the bottom. She launches herself from the ground and lands a bit more than half way up the ramp. The chicks do the same. It's like watching fussy little balls bouncing around. Sometimes they overcook the leap and go right over the ramp.

Meg, I've tried to find a picture without any luck. Some of the Scottish Highland Cattle keepers use what I can only describe as a horn bar. It has two slightly tapered open ended cups at each end and an adjustable bar welded in between. They drop the bar over the horns and lean on the bar. I am told, no I haven't tried it out myself that the cow's instinct is to push forward and/or twist.
