Good morning Cafe.
Coffee is made. Tea bags and kettle on the counter. Run out of sugar but there is a pot of honey as a replacement.
Windy with lots of fast moving cloud cover here.
It's May Day here so I'll be expecting to see lots and lots of Happy May Day posts and in depth posts on workers rights.

7 eggs hatched. One chick died due to my poor planning. It fell out of the box and couldn't get back in and died of hypothermia. That was a very sad thing to see as soon as I opened the door to the maternity ward this morning. I know what I'll do for the next clutch but I feel very responsible for losing this little one.

I did not examine them too closely as I moved everyone out of the box and onto the floor. I just wanted to get them back under mom before her trance broke. Two are definitely Fabio's kids. Three are definitely Captain's kids, including the chick that died. The other two I don't know yet. I have a blue one and am hoping that it's a pullet. She's so darn cute!
The dark brown egg I thought might have quit at the 14 day candling is the one that hasn't hatched. I'll leave her with it and candle it again tonight if it hasn't hatched by then but I think it's a dud.

I was wrong!! The last egg pipped and the chick is peeping.

I moistened Kerrie's chest feathers and stuck the egg under that spot on her.

I have 4 chicks from Fabio and two THREE?? from Captain. I must have given Kerrie 9 eggs. I've been paying so damn much attention to HER that I never even bothered to count the eggs I'd given her and never counted them ever when I took her off her nest each morning. Again, it was all about her and making sure she got what she needed. And when I candled, I was is a rush to get them back under her so I wasn't counting them then either. What a maroon!

Fabio threw the 5 toes to all of his kids this time (on BOTH feet I might add!) as well as the lightly feathered legs.
If the egg that is hatching is Captain's, he'll have fathered 56% of the chicks. Not bad for a boy that gets run off every chance Fabio gets.

So now today I get to plug more in so 9 more going in mostly for me
