BYC Café

ron my son and his GF are obviously going nuts working from home and sheltering in place. He informed me they want to make sour dough bread. I guess that is what people do under those circumstances :idunno. He said they cannot find "flour" in the grocery stores. I guess this is a new item for horders. Maybe it's just regional.

I don't bake anymore because it's just me. I don't want a leftovers I am stuck with. Plus which my stove really needs to be pushed off a cliff. Totally worthless! So I haven't looked for any.

Is this a fact, flour being hoarded???
Yes! Flour is being hoarded along with bakers yeast. That is the reason for interest in sourdough.

Flour is back in stock at the Woodland CA costco. Costco has been rationing it so the hoarders have not messed up their supply as much.

It will be a month or two for yeast to catch up. I have a one pound brick in my cupboard so I am good for a long time

Moving right along I just discovered right now that the kitchen sink faucet is not working. It was fine last night. With dishes, pots and pans all over the countertops it is NOT a good time for this. Means a plumber needs to change the Moen( I suspect) cartridge.)

Just under $ 200 when plumber came recently to replace the one in the shower. Gee had I known in advance it would have been cheaper to have both replaced at once. :rant
I am sorry to hear that!

The cartridges are not expensive. Can your Brother replace it?

Was going to call for an estimate to have gutter covers put on the house. I wouldn't live long enough to pay it off (I suppose they'd bill next of kin. - wonder if I could claim the POTUS as that.)

But realized it's probably just better to continue paying twice a year to have all the gunk from filthy Maple trees - taken care of. The next door neighbor's tree leans close to my roof. They had gutter covers put on - have lots of $$ and paid cash on the spot. Now the leaves from their roof (house is taller than mine) blow over to my roof.

The folks across the street from me have several maple trees close to the street. So they molt in my direction. Not their fault really. Several families have bought & sold that house. The original owners put in several maple trees that they had gotten gratis and need to plant immediately. Having accomplished that, they put the house up for sale and moved.

Can see the huge benefit of living on acreage with neighbors at some distance.

Sadly is seems like stuff just gets into the rain gutters! The world is filled with a lot of stuff in the air and wind brings it from far away!

I think people are buying it because they are worried about not being able to buy bread. Of course , they need yeast too.

No, my brother has absolutely no repair skills at all. Our late father did.
Even tho he is an IT and works for a branch of the government he has to call my son many states away to find out how to connect and use computer, scanner, new laser printer et al.

What he does have is $$$ being single and with the virus about - not traveling the globe like he would be doing.

Doesn't own a hammer, screw driver, whatever. I had to assemble a table for him because he could not understand Ikea instructions! Who does? You just think it out. Oh well:idunnomy shortcomings are endless and being "short" is one of them plus afraid of heights (even short heights).

I am sorry that you have to rely on a plumber! I have never hired a plumber in my life LOL!
