Yeah, I remember telling a chicken-keeping friend that I was expecting, and when he learned when the baby was due, he immediately broke out laughing and said, "I know what you did when it snowed!"

Quote: Yeah, that is challenging. We had an outside cat that we fed on the porch, so we wound up feeding a bunch of other cats as well. And possums, and raccoons, and Heaven only knows what else. I tried just taking the food up at dusk, but that didn't work - the raccoons started making their rounds before the sun went down.

When we have an outdoor only cat (Tom's) the feed bowl goes under the horse feed mixing table and only has a bit of feed in it twice a day, if it's not eaten when horse chores are done the feed is put away for next time. The cats learn if they want to eat they get there on time.

That real good snow that hit the coast hard and stayed away from us inland about the early 90's maybe late 80's?

Morning. Just flurrying - supposed to continue through tonight without major accumulation. Later in the week the cold is supposed to return briefly.

I feed a limited amout of food in the morning. All the farm cats bunch at the back door waiting breakfast. They eat that quickly and then they are on their own until tomorrow. There is no leftover food for wild animals and it makes them earn their keep by hunting. (I have one momma cat that is a bit too good at hunting, she caught herself a cardinal the other day :( )

No, a bit more recent than that. You're thinking about the Christmas of '89 (great memory, for someone that got missed by it!). We were told that we were going to experience record lows, and I was thinking I was going to lose the pansies that I had planted on properties all over town. Then, at almost the 11th hour, they started talking about snow . . . I don't think anyone in their wildest dreams thought we would get 15 inches! When we hit an all-time record low of 0oF on Christmas day, the whole area was already almost at a standstill with icy roads and drifted snow.

we had a pretty good snow storm......

Christmas Eve of 2004 I think.......

pretty special, and the closer you got to the coast, the more snow there was.

we had 12" at the house. amazing Christmas day.......temps rose to the 40's and snow stuck around all day long.......
