BYC Café

Sally, they are CVM and crosses with BFL and Bliss Merino. The sheep kinda got put on the back burner for awhile with everything going on. They are mainly entertainment and fire mitigation machines and they also give structure to the day for the DH with their bellering to be fed twice a day. LOL!

Still snowing - at least a foot deep on the flats.
Grrrr. Our prediction was originally for 6-9". There's at least 16" out there but it looks like more. It's hard to tell as it piled up on what was already there from the Christmas storm. Looks like 2' on the ground.

Morning Cafe. Coffee is ready.
With all this effort to save Seneca, my other poopy butt patient, Peanut, my last WLH, isn't looking good at all. She has ascites. There is nothing really to do for her as I won't drain her. I may have to euthanize her today. Her comb was noticeably darker last night and she was having labored breathing at lock up.
Not a great start to this new year.

How old is Peanut?

It is sad to see the predictable outcome with those breeds created for excessive laying. I once owned three WLH, very profitable and quite friendly little hens that produced enormous amounts of even more enormous eggs. I was always wondering how their slender bodies were able to cope with this disproportion.
But their giant thin and flappy combs did not do well in our rough climate, so they were not replaced when a fox took them out.
