Poor Mogwai she just needed to voice her opinion of it all..
I would try the idea of dark for 16 hours a day but okay devils advocate here.. Will it ever heal and become elastic again
if not it may be kinder to let her go ?
This is the plan. Tomorrow I'm going to close off the brooder, cut and screw a piece of plywood over HC between the coop and the brooder and drape an old, heavy sleeping bag over the top and front and hope that will make it dark enough. I'll check using the brooder cam.
I'll go out before I get ready in the morning for work and get them off the roost with the run flood light so she has about an hour to eat her fill then put her in the dark brooder before I leave for work Tuesday through Thursday. I'll ask Nan to go into the coop and open the brooder sliding door and let her out when she gets here at noon so she can go out and eat and drink. That will give her about 6 hours of light to eat. I hope that's enough to suppress ovulation but also make sure she has enough to eat and drink for the day.

I knew you'd come up with a good plan.

Sure hope it works good luck Tonya
have any of you heard of the Scott Valley Asils
Just heard of them on the new member thread. I think they are just some guys private flock. He looks like he breeds for cock fighters but who knows.

Good afternoon everyone!

Thank you for the coffee @DobieLover , much needed after clearing all poop boards, coops and confinements while snow is still falling.

Temperatures at about minus (-) 17 Celsius with rough winds. but the weather folks are predicting rising temperatures for the weekend.

I was thinking about the thickened/scarred skin on Seneca's vent and came up with Estradiol/Estriol gel. This might help to regain some elasticity due to the hormone, but would probably interfere with trying to stop her laying activity.
Some people even get their ailing hens an implant to stop the laying, thus gaining time to allow for healing, but I do not know if that would be something you might consider.

For me those implants would be out of the question, but apart from one very special old Araucana hen, all my other chickens are livestock, not pets.

I've put out an inquiry to a local avian vet asking if they offer suprelorin implants to stop ovulation in hens.
I'll look into the estradiol.
I think I'm going to treat her with anti-fungals. I've order medistatin to give her orally and I'm going to pick up some miconazole cream to apply to her vent twice daily during her light suppression therapy.
I'll no doubt have to remove another egg. I just hope she doesn't try to lay tomorrow when I have to go to work.
I stopped fermenting their homemade feed many months ago and just put them on straight Flock Raiser, part wet mash, part dry. I'm going to start fermenting the FR and just adding dry to it to get the consistency right. I think that will help balance her out too.
