BYC Café

Good morning Cafe. Coffee is ready.
We'll be pushing 50 today and should hit 60 tomorrow with lots of sun. Part of my netting has popped out of the plow wash. The rest of that section is still caught in the ice bank. I hope everything is salvageable. Maybe I'll be able to plumb up corner and gate posts and resurrect the fence this week. The chickens will enjoy getting back out of the run. They need more grass than that tiny area around the septic system. They have already stripped it bare.

All the patio ice melted yesterday, with a little help from me chopping channels for drainage.
Got 7 eggs yesterday, most since August.
Sold 2dz to returning customer, thought they might have found a new local source over the first winter I had no had pullets laying.
But they were thrilled to hear from me and came right over to get 'the best tasting eggs anywhere' :gig That gave me a boost!

I'm getting an average of a dozen a day. I've hauled in 14 on two days. I'm going to have to tap some old customers and see if they are interested. I now have 6 dozen in the refrigerator.
Are your older birds laying again?
How many females do you have?
Mine just really ramped up this last week.
I had zero eggs from mid October until mid January.
Will not go thru another winter with no pullets.

I should get 3 eggs today! :wee

A neighbor is interested in buying eggs. Another would be if I started feeding organic/non-GMO. I'm trying to find some organic feed; the increase in $$$ could be offset by selling eggs. I would rather feed organic, as that's how I garden.

Right now I'm feeding 20% protein all flock, with good result. I have nothing to compare to; it's my first flock, but I think it's going well. In my little bit of looking around, I found 18% organic chick starter/grower. Can I feed that in place of all flock with supplemental calcium, which I offer now?

I'm going to another store today to check out their feed lines.

Input? BYC is my go to source for advice. :)

Yep.

Start your prices high, easier to lower later, or have a 'sale', once you know how many eggs you get out of a bag of feed.

I track my eggs and sales cycle by bags of feed rather than weeks or months.

A delightful morning to all. Thanks for the coffee DL. Got plants and seeds for the garden Sun. Had big plans to get some gardening done yesterday and ended up not stepping foot in the garden. Started to move a bull yesterday morning that follows the feed bucket. Well not yesterday. He left from 1 pen/small pasture and instead of following the feed bucket on the 4-wheeler he high tailed it across the other pasture. Finally got him and a neighbors heifer back in the original pen. 2hrs after starting we went home and I loaded up a horse.

By far the creamiest and smoothest frosting, but was really butter-y. Think I'll have to try Sour's kerry gold on the next round. And a little more sugar :)
I don't like a very sweet frosting or cake really. That one may be great for me. I made sweet cornbread for thanksgiving. Wife's grandma asked which dessert I liked the best they had brought several I said it's right here the cornbread.
