My early June chicks have ALWAYS laid starting in Nov or early Dec and laid through their first winter.

I don't know when in June, but thank you, this gives me hope.

You get your hair cut every 2 weeks?!? I drag in about every 3 or 4 months.

Yes. It's short and starts sticking out of I let it go any longer. Amy only asks for $5. I give her $10 and a dozen eggs for her tip. She's almost the same age as me and a dear friend.

When I've gotten them early they laid in the fall then quit.

It's a fine, fine line.

Mine isn't. Gretel is going into day three in the buster. Second time this year.

48 hours did the trick, caught her pretty early tho.
She went broody last fall after laying for a month or two,
then didn't lay all winter, even with lights.

That certainly makes every 2 weeks more reasonable, even when you give her 10.

That it makes a hellaciously wonderful clatter on our wooden floors. So much more fun than her multitude of plush toys.

So far, sadly, she is not destroying it. If she were I would have a legitimate excuse for trashing her 'favorite'. Initially I put treats inside and left the cap on = what a wonderful clatter that made. She readily learned how to remove the cap. Tossed that as we feared she would swallow it. Last growth check she was 22+ inches at the shoulder and weighed 38 pounds of bone and muscle. She's grown since then.
