BYC Café

Good afternoon, Cafe! Spent an hour or so cleaning a coop: sweeping, vacuuming, scraping buggy bodies out of the windows :sick Much better now. Sunny and 50° out, heading for 60°+ tomorrow.

Going to get a cake baked for my husband's birthday tomorrow. We'll head over to my brother in law's in the morning to help brand, then come back and make dinner. Fresh ham, corn bread casserole and mashed potatoes on the menu.

I called my husband after my appt yesterday, and our youngest and his girlfriend had lost the second of three of their new baby ducks (in less than 24hrs). Of course you can't find them anywhere, but I was out of town and decided to try the murdoch's there. Got to the chick counter and all they had was a few polish chicks. I decided to wait around and ask the gal if they had any, or were getting some, ducklings in. Almost secretly she says: I have four in the back room. You can take them all if you like. So:

Tiny baby Thelma now has four buddies. :loveThey didn't seem to mind their long trip home, but I sweating with the heat up for them! Seemed like it was meant to be and I was glad to have the company on the way home.
How fortuitous that you found new babies for the lone duckling!

He does, but she doesn't. We had ducks when they were younger. I think the problem is these hatchlings are experiencing longer than normal times in transit. My niece works at Murdoch's and they had a shipment of 80 come in with two live chicks. It's horrific.
That's disgusting. I'm sure they don't let the customers know this aspect of the little chicks they are purchasing.
Did you see the New Member post with the petition to try to make TSC do something about their new economical brooder setups?

Yes, I thought so, too!

I saw it, but haven't had a chance to get back and read the petition. I will check it out.

I've seen a few threads about their new setups...I though everyone liked them? We do not have tsc here.

We took the dogs for a hike on this beautiful day. I thought someone dropped something red in the leaf litter and when I went to pick it up, found these. Anyone know the species? I've never seen anything like them.

my sisters kids after she left them at the baby sitters for 11 yes 11 months.
That is remarkable, both from her leaving them and them keeping the kids. At least they were well cared for.

Broody Broken!
Mine isn't. Gretel is going into day three in the buster. Second time this year.

I want them now so they are laying by fall.
When I've gotten them early they laid in the fall then quit.

:hmm So if I don't get mine until June... I'll be waiting until next spring...? :hit
My early June chicks have ALWAYS laid starting in Nov or early Dec and laid through their first winter.

Was not on at all yesterday flat tire on the freeway coming home from Costco
That really sucks!!! I'm glad you are OK. Bad enough to get a flat but on the freeway? :th

I see her every 2 weeks
You get your hair cut every 2 weeks?!? I drag in about every 3 or 4 months.
