BYC Café

I see a snowflake or two... another pot brewed. DS$ and I cut up a couple of aspens that fell down at the neighbor's place over the winder. She wanted them cleaned up before the spring flowers came up. I split the last of our firewood up on the hill and DH is burning a small slash pile. I gave garlic to the other neighbors to put in the ground, not the best time to plant, but still will get something for their troubles. And I watered some horses because the tank and the hose were already out and the owner won't have to deal in the cold. She seems to be having a hard go for the time being anyway...
Penny, I hope you do not need stitches! Hugs!

At least with the state run (don't know about the pharmacy ones) here they schedule the second shot while you are doing your 15 minute after shot wait period. Sign up is via an online system, chose the day and time you want from the available slots. Thus there is no question as to how long before it is your turn.
All of the vaccine appointments here go through a system called my turn. Our health clinic was on the list so I went there. I was given the follow-up appointment before getting the first shot.

I built Aart's chicken door for the little ones this weekend. It's working very well! I'm not sure when they'll decide to sleep with the big flock... May have to kick them out when I'm ready to move the little chickies outside.
Does that door have to keep out other chickens or just the goose?
I found that ~3.5" was the widest that would keep the chickens out,
so you may have to screw another piece of wood on the edge to narrow the opening.

so not pretty - but functional
That's what counts!!

Only the other chickens and I think it's 6" wide. :th I put it in not for fear of the chickens harassing the chicks, but to deter them from eating all of their food  :hmm. I haven't seen any of them in there. Yet. I may narrow it down a bit for the next little batch because I'd like them out with the flock sooner than these were.

Just get some scrap wood and screw it to the edge or the opening to make it narrower.
I had to do that to one of mine, took someones advice to make opening 5x7.
Luckily I discovered before putting chicks out there that a couple of hens could get thru.
They even got thru a 4x4 opening on the slider doors, those were easy to ramp down, and how I discovered 3.5" would do the trick.
I probably have a pic of them...but am to lazy to look right now.
Found it! Scrap has red mark.
See the BOSS on the floor bait for door testing :D

Awesome. Thanks, Aart!

Did you put three doors in to give the little ones options/more fast escapes?

Amazing how small of hole some of the hens can get through. I do have a few slender girls out there, too.

I will slim the door down when the wee'est ones come out!
